Mark Munoz interested in fighting Hector Lombard

UFC middleweight Mark Munoz was on the cusp of contending for the divisional title before running into Chris Weidman last month and suffering a devastating knockout in the bout?s second stanza. The loss snapped a four-fight winning streak for Munoz and sent him back to the drawing board.

Though Munoz is still serving a medical suspension it appears he already has a specific opponent in mind for his return to the ring ? Hector Lombard. The two talented 185ers exchanged some trash-talk leading up to their most recent outings with Lombard even stating he would rather fight ?The Filipino Wrecking Machine? than compete for a championship.

?You know Hector Lombard has been talking a lot about me so I don’t mind fighting him. I know he’s upset about what I said about him?I didn’t want to disrespect him at all. That’s just how I felt?I didn’t want to disrespect him as a fighter. He’s a very good fighter, but if he wants to go, we can go,? said Munoz in an interview with BJPenn.com, adding, ?I?m anxious to get back in there.?

Lombard: “I want to fight him bad.”

Earlier this month, the 31-3-1 Lombard announced he would be out until mid-September in order to heal from a few injuries he suffered while training for his Octagon debut. The former Bellator champ ultimately lost a Split Decision to Tim Boetsch at UFC 149 but was competitive throughout, even deserving the judges’ nod in the eyes of many, and had won more than twenty straight scraps entering the event.

One-Handed Fighter Nick Newell Scores Knockout (VIDEO)

While most of us had our attention focused on UFC on FOX 4 on Saturday night, Nick Newell was stepping into the cage at a minor league event called Xtreme Fighting Championships and scoring a knockout. While such occurrences are not uncommon at the smaller shows that happen every weekend across the United States, what makes this one remarkable is the man earning the KO: Newell's left arm ends just past the elbow. Newell, a Massachusetts native and former high school wrestler, is now 8-0 as a pro, and the win puts him line for a crack at the XFC lightweight title.

Titan FC 24 Results: Johnson Successful in Light Heavyweight Debut

Former UFC fighter Anthony Johnson made a successful light heavyweight debut against Esteves Jones last night at Titan FC 24. The AXS TV-aired card took place at the Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas. The card also featured the successful MMA debut of BJJ master Braulio Estima, who finished his opponent, unsurprisingly, by submission.

Bellator 73 Results: Attila Vegh, Marcos Galvao earn title-shots with terrific showings

Two more top contenders have been named in Bellator after each man capped off a successful tournament last night at Bellator 73. Exiting the event with a title-shot in tow were light heavyweight Attila Vegh and bantamweight Marcos Galvao, both of whom looked sharp en route to stoppages against their respective opponent.

The show unfolded live in front of an animated crowd in Tunica, Mississippi who enjoyed a lineup featuring far more finishes than judges? decisions.

Vegh?s victory came less than thirty seconds into the opening round of action when he landed a perfectly-placed strike behind the ear of favorite Travis Wiuff. The win was his eighth straight, improving the 27-year old?s record to 28-4-2. Next up for Vegh will be 20-pound champion Christian M?Pumbu at some point this fall.

In bantamweight action, Galvao honored his recently deceased mother with another slick showing inside the cage. Galvao scored only the second TKO of his nineteen-fight career by finishing Luis Nogueira in the second stanza with a combination of punches and elbows. Interestingly enough, the win set up a match with title-holder Eduardo Dantas in November who also happens to be his teammate at Nova Uniao.
