Spike TV Says Goodbye to the UFC

More than any single business move the UFC has made, getting The Ultimate Fighter on Spike TV was instrumental to keeping the company afloat and bringing it to a wider audience. But now the UFC-Spike partnership is coming to an end.

In a statement released just minutes before the UFC and Fox are expected to announce a new television agreement, Spike confirmed that its partnership with the UFC is coming to an end.

"The Ultimate Fighter season 14 in September will be our last," the statement says. "We are increasing our commitment to distinctive, original series that we own such as Auction Hunters and Bar Rescue, which are delivering on our goal to reach a broader audience. Our 6-year partnership with the UFC has been incredibly beneficial in building both our brands, and we wish them all the best in the future."

Although the statement doesn't say anything about other UFC programming, like live Fight Night shows and old fights shown on UFC Unleashed, all indications are that the UFC and Spike will be finished as a partnership after the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter wraps up.

At the time they made their partnership, the UFC and Spike were great partners, and both parties have grown significantly through the years. But now it makes more sense for both parties to go their separate ways, with the UFC focusing on its deal with Fox, and Spike focusing on shows like Auction Hunters and Bar Rescue.

Chris Lytle shows off his versatility at UFC on Versus 5 workouts

MILWAUKEE -- Chris Lytle happily took requests from the crowd at UFC on Versus 5 open workouts at the Harley Davidson Museum on Friday. Instead of asking Lytle to show off submissions, they asked for him to show off some tumbling. He happily obliged.

He won't likely use a backflip during his fight with Dan Hardy on Sunday, but perhaps this was a warm-up for the post-fight celebration?

Dana White interview: UFC president not seeing title rematches for Belfort or Fitch anytime soon

Dana White understands the desires of both Jon Fitch and Vitor Belfort to get back in the Octagon for a shot at UFC titles, but he's also got a promotion to run. Joining ESPNRadio1100/98.9 FM's "The MMA Insiders" show on Friday, White said it's a tough to sell Jon Fitch against Georges St-Pierre again. The same goes for Belfort against UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva.

Belfort doesn't believe that's the case. He wants the title shot and say Silva is afraid of him.

"If he didn't throw that kick, this would've happened to him. He knows that," Belfort said during the UFC 133 postfight press conference. "I would like to fight the winner of [Yushin] Okami and Anderson [at UFC 134]."

White was shocked by Belfort's words.

"Craziest statement ever made. 'Listen, if he didn't knock me out I would've won that fight!' Yeah, okay. Maybe," laughed White (8:25 mark).

That said, White is an admirer of Belfort. He just wants to see more consistency out of the veteran.

"The problem with a guy like Vitor Belfort is he's one of the best in the world [but] Vitor is just inconsistent," White said. "[...] Vitor Belfort needs to get into a consistent game where every fight looks like the Akiyama fight. Even if he goes in against a guy and it's an absolute war, at least Vitor Belfort went in and let his hands go."

Belfort has a lot of work to get done before he gets in there again with Silva.

"Vitor Belfort went in against Anderson Silva and got hit with a front kick and got knocked out in the first 30 seconds of the fight. Who does he gotta to beat and how long's he gotta go before you want to see him fight Anderson Silva again? Maybe a couple of Akiyama type knockouts and maybe we are ready to see him face Anderson again," White said.
