AW Fired After Inappropriate Joke, Bashes WWE On Way Out

WWE Performer AW, most recently featured as the manager of the Primetime Players (Darren Young and Titus O’Neil), was released Friday from his contract. WWE officials confirmed the move on the company’s website.

AW ran into trouble on RAW on July 30, when he made a pretty regrettable and decidedly non-PG joke on the microphone pertaining to NBA star Kobe Bryant‘s sexual assault case from years ago. He made his final appearance on Smackdown last Friday night, accompanying the Players to the ring for a match with his usual headset mic.

TMZ confirmed that the Bryant joke led to AW’s release, stating, “Unfortunately, Brian Jossie, playing the character of A.W. was terminated because he continued to exhibit poor judgment by making offensive and inappropriate comments on live television and on social media.”

AW took to Twitter to get his last digs in, writing, “AWPromotions is no more ladies and gentlemen. Thank you for your support and hate, it’s been a great run. Now I get to do me which isn’t PG! @TitusONeilWWE & @DarrenYoungWWE thank you for allowing me to speak on your behalf. You guys are the best and I’m glad to call u my friends! Let this be a lesson to up and coming talent in the WWE don’t try and be great like the Rock or Stone Cold. WWE isn’t the same.”

“Thanks to the fans who showed me support over the whole Kobe thing and to those I upset I apologize again,” he continued. “Remember It’s entertainment folks! I really do hope Linda wins that election because If not then all of this BS has been for nothing. #GoLinda! Thank you WWE for creating me and then killing me because I only portrayed what I grew up watching… The #WWE!!”

No word has surfaced on how the Primetime Players will be handled moving forward.

Anthony Pettis Steals Spotlight at UFC 150 Press Conference

Despite the fact four lightweights are headlining UFC 150, including the division’s current and former champion, the hot topic of conversation during Thursday’s press conference circled around Anthony Pettis (Pictured). Donald Cerrone kicked things off last week by claiming “Showtime” was ducking him by hiding behind a shoulder injury. “Cowboy” promptly picked up right where [...]

Rory MacDonald withdraws from UFC 152 with injury, still wants to fight BJ Penn

The lineup for UFC 152 took a hit this weekend when news surfaced revealing welterweight Rory MacDonald had suffered a cut in training requiring 38 stitches and would not be ready to go again in time for a scheduled scrap with BJ Penn on September 22 at the Toronto-bound show. Though the UFC has not officially announced how his withdrawal would be handled, MacDonald made it clear he?s still hopefully for a crack at Penn before year?s end.

MacDonald went on Twitter to post a picture of the injury and express his remaining desire to face Penn in mid-November, possibly at UFC 154 in Montreal.

Penn replied to MacDonald?s request through Twitter, though he had a different date in mind for their dance, writing, ?I am sorry to hear about the injury to Rory MacDonald. This is a fight that got me out of retirement and one that I was looking forward to. I would like to wish Rory a speedy and healthy recovery and request a postponement of our fight to the Rio card. To Rory, let?s stay with VADA and continue through with the program from now until we fight!?

MacDonald Ready to “Hurt” Penn

The UFC is scheduled to stop in Rio de Janeiro on October 13 for UFC 153.

In the wake of the news, a handful of other fighters including Jon Fitch and Sean Sherk have also stepped up to state they would be happy to fill the vacancy created by MacDonald?s injury.

BJ Penn?s bout with Rory MacDonald moved to FOX card in December

After attempts from multiple fighters to bait former UFC champion BJ Penn into a match-up it looks like ?The Prodigy? will still be fighting Rory MacDonald as originally planned. However, rather than mixing it up on PPV it appears the two will tussle on network television at UFC on FOX 5. MacDonald-Penn were initially supposed to fight in September at UFC 152 but an injury to MacDonald forced the clash?s cancellation.

The FOX event is scheduled for December 8 though no location has been linked to the card. It will be the last FOX event of 2012.

Jon Fitch and Others Call out Penn in Hopes of a Fight

Spike TV’s MMA Uncensored was first to report the rumble?s new date, while MMAJunkie has confirmed MacDonald-Penn will not be the evening?s main event but rather the co-headliner.

Penn will be making his return from more than a year on the sidelines after deciding to retire after his last fight, a decision loss to Nick Diaz. The popular Hawaiian holds an overall record of 16-8-2 with UFC titles in two divisions and wins over the likes of Matt Hughes, Sean Sherk, and Diego Sanchez.

Meanwhile, MacDonald is 13-1 and is currently on a three-fight winning streak. Twelve of his triumphs have involved some form of finish.

Gabriel Gonzaga greenlit for scrap with Geronimo dos Santos at UFC 153

A year ago, UFC heavyweight Gabriel Gonzaga was semi-retired from Mixed Martial Arts after losing back-to-back bouts inside the Octagon and had little hope where a return to the infamous eight-sided cage was concerned. However, after changing his mind and giving it another go, Gonzaga has gone 2-0 including an opening round choke of Ednaldo Oliveira at UFC 142 in front of his fellow Brazilians.

Gonzaga will have a chance to make it 3-0 this October 13 at UFC 153, a card also scheduled for Rio de Janeiro, where he?ll talented newcomer Geronimo dos Santos.

Gonzaga Says the UFC Will Always Feel Like His Home

The bout was first reported by TATAME. A meeting between Chris Camozzi-Luiz Cane was also announced by the UFC in relation to the event.

?Napao? is 13-6 in his career with his most notable win involving a high-kick knockout of Mirko Filipovic.

Comparably, Dos Santos has won his last ten fights and holds an overall record of 31-14. The powerful 31-year old has finished 29 of the foes he?s felled including twenty TKOs and nine submissions.

UFC 153 is headlined by featherweight title-holder Jose Aldo putting his belt on the line against Erik Koch and also features Vitor Belfort-Alan Belcher and Glover Teixeira-Quinton Jackson.
