UFC 153 takes major blow with loss of Jose Aldo, Quinton Jackson due to injury

UFC President Dana White can?t seem to catch a break these days when it comes to the health of the fighters on his roster, unless of course that break has to due with a bone. Earler today it came to light that White had once again been left scrambling to find a new main event with the added aggravation of a new co-headliner as well with both bouts being attached to UFC 153.

Specifically, the outspoken executive announced Jose Aldo and Quinton Jackson had both suffered some sort of health-related issue while training for their tilts and would have to be replaced. Aldo was scheduled to defend his featherweight belt against Frankie Edgar, while Jackson was poised to meet Glover Teixeira. No specifics about the condition of either were revealed.

Aldo Suffers Minor Injuries in Motorcycle Accident

?Another amazing day at the UFC. We have some work to do,? posted White on Twitter.

Though it?s unknown if he?ll receive a nod from the matchmaking team, fan-favorite Urijah Faber wasted little time stepping up to help out if needed, saying he was in the process of bulking up for a potential showdown with Edgar. The 26-6 Faber held featherweight gold in WEC but has recently been competing at 135 pounds where he fell by way of decision to Renan Barao this past July.

Strikeforce signs unbeaten bantamweight Sara McMann

In a move serving as affirmation of Strikeforce?s interest in bolstering their female ranks, the organization has come to an agreement with Invicta FC to bring Sara McMann on board. The deal marks the latest venture between the two companies who have made it clear they?re open to sharing talent as long as it makes sense from a business perspective and assists in the growth of women?s MMA.

Invicta FC officials confirmed the situation in a press release where McMann explained, ?I am not sure how long my MMA career will last and, with the time I have left in the sport, I need to take every opportunity that comes my way to fight the best competition out there, so this move is part of a bigger picture for me.?

The 31-year old McMann boasts a perfect record at 6-0 including wins over Tonya Evinger, Hitomi Akano, and most recently Shayna Baszler. Also worth noting, McMann is an Olympic silver medalist wrestler, making her an interesting option for bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey ? also an Olympian who medaled in her core discipline (judo).

?Since we established Invicta FC at the beginning of this year, our goal has been to produce the best possible matchups between women mixed martial artists and, to achieve this, we sometimes need to import talent like Sarah Kaufman from elsewhere as well as to send talent like Sara McMann to a place like Strikeforce where there is a healthy amount of championship level professional women?s MMA competition just like there is on our roster,? added Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp.

Kaufman Signs to fight at Invicta FC 3

No date has been confirmed for McMann?s Strikeforce debut though it appears likely she will fight in the next few months, possibly at the promotion?s card on November 3 in Oklahoma City.

Four questions that will be answered by Strikeforce: Rousey vs. Kaufman

Strikeforce will put their bantamweight belt on the line Saturday when Ronda Rousey fights Sarah Kaufman. What questions will be answered by these fights? Read on, Cagereader.

Does Sarah Kaufman have the Ronda Rousey puzzled solved? If Rousey wins this bout, there's a pretty good chance it is by an armbar. After all, she's had eight fights (five pro, three amateur), and they all have ended in an armbar win. Kaufman and her team are aware of this, and even made a joke about the many messages they receive about the armbar on "All Access." Joking aside, she will have to keep the fight standing and avoid Rousey's ground game to win. Eight other fights have failed. Can Kaufman do it?

Is Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza still a title threat? Jacare lost the Strikeforce middleweight belt to Luke Rockhold nearly a year ago, and has one win in one fight since. Will he get another shot at the belt? His performance against Derek Brunson will tell.

Are Roger Bowling or Tarec Saffiedine title contenders? Both men have hovered near the top of Strikeforce's welterweight division, but haven't gotten a title shot. Nate Marquardt will need an opponent soon, and this fight could produce a challenger.

How has Miesha Tate recovered? Saturday's fights mark a return to the cage for both Tate and Rousey. It's the first time either has fought since Rousey took the belt from Tate and ripped up her arm in the process. Tate has recovered from her many torn ligaments, but will she be the same fighter when facing off with Julie Kedzie?

Want to make fight predictions? Here's the place to do it. Tell us what will happen on Saturday night in the comments, on Facebook or on Twitter.

Jon Jones excited about challenges Vitor Belfort presents as a Southpaw

There?s no question Vitor Belfort has done it all in MMA, winning tournaments, titles, and tons of respect over his 16-year career. However, it?s what he offers as a fighter rather than a legend that has piqued UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones? interest.

In particular, Jones is anxious to test himself against Belfort?s stance as a Southpaw to prove he?s evolved since eating a number of shots from the last lefty he faced, Lyoto Machida.

?I?m just really excited to fight Vitor Belfort, mainly because he?s a Southpaw. And the last time I fought a Southpaw it was Lyoto and I got punched pretty good. I?m just anxious to do a better job against another dangerous Southpaw,? said Jones of his foe in an interview with the organization, adding, ?He?s a winner. I?m a winner. He?s a dominant guy. I think that I dominate my competition. It?s gonna be a magnificent, magnificent display of martial arts.?

Belfort Training for Jones Alongside Former Teammate Rashad Evans

Though the dynamic 25-year old may have been hit more than he would?ve liked against Machida, chances are ?Bones? will still be shooting for the same outcome pertaining to the UFC 152 results. Jones choked Machida out cold in the second stanza of their December 2011 tilt, defending his divisional strap successfully for the second time as well.

Father of Wanderlei Silva killed in car crash

Sad news from Curitiba, Brazil. Holando Piniero da Silva, the father of MMA veteran and all-around good guy Wanderlei Silva, died in a head-on car collision. Silva left his camp in Las Vegas to head to Brazil for his father's funeral services.

Silva recently released video from a visit with his family in Brazil. His father talked about how his son is the pride of Brazil, and beamed as he introduced his entire family to the camera.

"I learned a lot from my dad, even with our hectic life. My father worked three jobs. My parents lived for us," Wanderlei said. "The biggest lesson is that we can achieve anything through hard work and honesty."
