Junior dos Santos: ?Alistair Overeem Doesn?t Deserve a Title Fight?

While UFC president Dana White states Alistair Overeem won’t lose his place in line after serving his nine-month testosterone suspension, reigning heavyweight king Junior dos Santos (Pictured) doesn’t believe Overeem should retain his top contender moniker when his ban is lifted. “I am champion and never have used anything and I am proud to say [...]

MMA Marketplace: Frank Mir?s UFC 146 walkout shirt

Though Frank Mir's opponent changed for UFC 146, his sponsor didn't. He is still sponsored by the UFC, like Jon Jones. They gave him a walkout shirt that's low-key and collegiate-looking.

Plus, it has pretty stars and I'm a sucker for pretty stars. Buy it for $29.95.

Note: Junior dos Santos' walkout shirt for this weekend was not online, but you can buy this wall hanging depicting the champ, so ... win.

Roy Nelson?s Beard has plenty to say

Roy Nelson got a chance to speak at Thursday's UFC 146 press conference, but his beard remained silent. That is, until now. In a Cagewriter exclusive, Roy Nelson's Beard (RNB) spoke about its past, future, and what it brings to Nelson's game.

Cagewriter: How are you feeling today?

RNB: Good. Full. Ready to take on Dave Herman.

CW: How long have you been with Roy?

RNB: Well, I've been a part of his life for some time, but it was just in the past year or so that Roy really let me shine. He and I push each other to make each other great. It's truly a symbiotic relationship.

CW: What do you bring to his MMA game?

RNB: What DON'T I bring to his game? Striking, wrestling, jiu-jitsu, I taught him all of that. When he and his coaches come up with his game plan, they turn to me for advice. TKOing "Cro Cop"? That was all me.

CW: So then do you also take the blame for the fact he's lost three of his last four bouts?

RNB: Well, we're a team. We lose together, y'know? It's not just Roy out there. It's me, the belly, the mullet.

CW: Is there ever a rivalry between you?

RNB: Well, I'll let you in on a secret. The belly is TOTALLY jealous of me. He always used to get all the attention, but since Roy has been getting in better shape, he's lost prominence. Now it's all eyes on me.

CW: Has Roy talked to you about the future? Will he definitely keep you around or is there discussion of ... a razor?

RNB? Why would you ask such a thing? That's sick. Seriously. A razor? To what? Shave me off? You don't shave me off. You don't get rid of a glorious beard like this one. Are you crazy. I'm done. Interview's over.

CW: Well, thanks for your time.

Hockey Fight of the Day: Andrew Peters vs. Stephen Peat

This fight is short, sweet, and to the point. It’s also from 2004 when times were simpler and Justin Bieber hadn’t emerged as the soul-sucking force he is today. The bout’s participants and none other than the Buffalo Sabres’ Andrew Peters and Washington Capitals’ Stephen Peat, both known for their willingness to dish out damage [...]

Olympic wrestler Steve Mocco making transition to MMA

Steve Mocco won two NCAA wrestling titles and competed in the Olympics as a heavyweight. Now, he has his eyes set on dominating a new sport: MMA.

Mocco, who competed in the Beijing Olympics in 2008, has had MMA on his mind for years. After training with Antonio Silva to prepare him for his bout with Cain Velasquez, Mocco decided to make the jump. He'll train at American Top Team in Florida. Mocco told Sammy Perez of Joe Show Radio:

"This decision was a whirlwind. I was down there training and all the guys were great. Once they discovered I was interested in fighting, everything fell into place."

He didn't want to wait any longer because he knows his prime athletic years are numbered. He's hoping to get a fight before the end of the year.

The decision also was made easier by Mocco not making this year's Olympic team. He finished third at the Olympic Trials in April.

Mocco was a collegiate star and a controversial figure. He started his career and won a national title with Iowa, then after redshirting, transferred to Oklahoma State. With that move, Mocco competed for the top two wrestling programs in the country.

While wrestling in college, Mocco had several battles with future Bellator heavyweight champ Cole Konrad. They met twice in the national championship. Mocco also faced off with future UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, and was an Olympic teammate of Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix champ Daniel Cormier.

Mocco is following in the footsteps of several other wrestlers with elite, international experience to jump to MMA. Dan Henderson, Randy Couture, Joe Warren, Mo Lawal, Ben Askren and Cormier, among others, found success as fighters after wrestling at the highest levels.
